Take a glass dish/bowl fill with cotton balls and pour ammonia over the cotton balls. Put in each corner of the room and close the door. Within 24 hrs you should smell a difference. Renew until all smell is gone.

ODOBAN is a really great product. We were able to get smoke smell out of a pre-owned car with that spray. It took a while(like a month) but spraying a few times a day definitely worked. Though if the cigarette smoke is really bad, you might want to re-paint anyway because cigarette smoke and candles can make walls have dingy grey areas.

I have used a pump sprayer with vinegar, maybe 50/50 and sprayed the walls and floors. If the ceilings are not popcorn you can spray them also. Takes a couple days with good circulation before the house no longer smells like you salad. Also put a bowl of vinegar where the AC return can circulate it thru the vests/duct work. May take more than one "treatment".

OdoBan is great for removing cigarette odors. I wiped down everything in my husband's truck every time he swapped and it would get rid of it. Also, it's a disinfectant.

  • You need to wash the walls, ceiling, floors and everything in the room, including upholstered furniture and any carpeting. I have personally done this. Work room by room, and don't place clean items in an unclean room, otherwise you will defeat the purpose. TSP or a vinegar water solution is perfect for ceilings, walls and even some floors. Vinegar for almost everything else and for upholstered furniture spritz with rubbing alcohol. Carpets and rugs should be professionally steam cleaned. Once you wash the ceiling and walls, and you see the filth that comes off, you will understand why every single item needs to be cleaned and quarantined.
