I used to use a straight blade razer to gently scrape off burnt on foods.
I use Bio Cleaner (a soft clay) and Scrub Daddy or Scrub Mommy sponges. This combo takes off EVERYTHING.

Check with the manufacturer for the best guidelines. I've used TSP substitute in a spray bottle mixed with water and a rag. Cleans grease right off with zero effort but that may not be best for your type of top.
