Remove doors, drawers and hardware. Clean with TSP, sand off sheen. Prime with oil based primer. Lightly sand with 220 grit to smooth. Paint 2 coats of oil based paint.
I would skip the chalk paint, it's not as much of a miracle as its made out to be. I used a kit by Rust-Oleum called Cabinet Transformations to paint my kitchen cabinets but they have a vanity kit too. Use a chalk based or mineral based paint. I would go with Dixie Belle because it is the most affordable. :) No sanding or priming required. :)
