How do I keep early-picked pumpkins from ripening before Halloween?

I find that even after applying bleach to the outside of my pumpkins, the ones that are raised up a little always last longer than the ones that are sitting directly on the surface of the porch, step, etc.

I have found it is best to keep them uncarved, cool, and dry until you are ready to use them for your project.

They grow in a field and are subject to all that their environment has to offer, including molds, dirt, and bacterial. I never have had much luck with the bleach method, maybe others have and maybe you might.

SPRAY them thoroughly with hair spray. AQUA NET will coat them good & leave a clear finish. This will keep them from being exposed to air & air promotes moisture & rot. Spray the stem too. DON'T carve into the pumpkin until Halloween.
