DIY Plastic Canvas Pencil Holders

I have really been enjoying plastic canvas crafts lately and when my daughter asked me to make her a pencil holder for her desk, I knew what I wanted to try. I have lots of plastic canvas at home from a huge sale the craft store had this summer and ended up making the cutest pencil holders. These aren't just pencil holders though... they can be used for so many things and you can customize them to match any home décor.

You'll need to start with a round plastic canvas piece and a sheet. Make sure the sheet fits around the circle and will close. I had to trim my round piece a little for this.

Start stitching the two pieces together. Use a basic stitch and stitch the edges together.

Continue all the way around the bottom and then stitch the sheet together.

Now is the fun part... designing the cup holder. I didn't have a plan when I started filling this in with yarn.

I started practicing different kind of stitches and used neon yarn to fill up this pencil holder.

It was so easy and fun to make that I made another one. I stitched flowers on this one and added beads.

You could use these for pretty much anything. Add a glass and water inside and use for a vase or give as a gift to someone who needs a little organization in their life.

Would it be easier to do the design first and then sew on the bottom and close the side? Just wondering.
