If they’re plated or chromed in a gold tone, I would evaluate closely what appears to be “dirty” on them before using anything except a soapy rag & then wiping off the soap with a damp rag and then hand drying. Plated finishes tend to fail on high wear areas.

Is it brass? Ketchup is the best. Lather it on let sit about one hour, wash off. Repeat if necessary.
If they’re solid brass, then Brasso is my go-to.
