Hairpin Leg Sofa Table
In this tutorial we created a small sofa table using hairpin legs and 2x6 boards. It only took a couple of hours to complete and the hairpin legs were easy to use in this DIY project.
Material List:
- Hairpin legs of your choice for your specific table. The ones in this tutorial are 28" tall.
- 2- 2x6x8 (cut to your desired table length)
- Wood Glue
- Kreg Jeg screws (5- 2.5" screws)
Tools Needed:
- Chop saw
- Table saw
- Router
- Sander
- Kreg Jeg
First cut your boards to the desired table length. We made ours 4 foot long.
Then trim the rounded edge off one side of your boards using a table saw.
Place the two side you just cut together. On the back side of the table top, lay out where you want your pocket screw holes to be placed. We used a Kreg Jeg to make the pocket holes.
The pocket holes were placed in an alternating pattern so when put together the screws will draw the boards together. Use wood glue on the cut sides before screwing the boards together.
Once the boards are glued and screwed together you will trim off the outside rounded edges.
Then we trimmed the ends of the table top, insuring it is square.
After the table top is square, we placed our hairpin legs on the underside of the table top to decide the placement of the legs. We decided we didn't like the look of the leg brackets just being on the wood so we traced them and routered the wood so they would be inset.
Then we flipped the table top over on the top side and routered a 45° angle on the top edge all around the table top.
After all the routering was complete we sanded both sides of the table top.
After sanding the table top we screwed the legs in place. At this point I would be finishing the table top but am unsure what finish I want to go with.

Here is the full view of the finished table!! We love how it turned out and think these legs (shorter of course) would make an amazingly cool coffee table.

What would be nice would be if we could go to our 'big box store'for boards like this,make projects out of them before they twisted,warped or turned into a rocker for some giants rocking chair.Hope your table never has that problem,and hope you have a much better source for wood than we do around here where I live.
