Can you help me renovate a poorly done kitchen?

Hello everyone. We have been trying to remodel the cabin that we recently purchased. The layout has a lot of issues. The kitchen is L shaped. It’s small, and the previous owners converted an upper cabinet into a lower cabinet, so the counter is more shallow in that area. That looks very funky. Another big issue is when you walk through the front door, you literary run into the dining room table. The front door is right in front of the table. What can we do? Are there any bright ideas anyone can through at us? We are stuck! We’ve been thinking of different options, but nothing worked out so far.Otherwise, I am planning to call a kitchen renovation company and get their advice on this

I would call a couple of contractors and see what their suggestions are or else go to Home Depot or Lowes and take photos of your project to get expert tips and help

I would move the table. Can you add a bench against a wall and make it more like a booth? it's hard to say without seeing the space.

  • Post some photos. If we can see the general space and layout, we can offer better suggestions. For me, it is always a common sense and logical remedy, much like a Rubik's cube. Sketching out on graph paper helps many people too. Sounds like previous owners were clueless about form and function. You can remedy yourself or hire an interior designer / space planner. Without even seeing it, my idea would be to gut the kitchen lower cabinets (at least depending on our budget), p and open up the space. You can always add in a multi function island back in for storage, prep work and serving.

A picture would be helpful. Thanks!

If its a cabin and there is no other option for the dining room table, can you relocate the door? or can you get a new table with leaves that fold down during the day?

As to the kitchen counter difference, how about getting a whole new countertop cut. Either ignore the overhang over the smaller cabinet, or go to Habitat for Humanity Restore or an architectural recycler to find one the same as the other cabinets. If the old cabinet is shorter than the rest you could add some lumber to the bottom and put on a toe kick.
