How can I refinish a wooden island top?

Have made a wooden top for kitchen island and now it needs refinished due to being used as a cutting board😤😤 is sanding it down my best option? Any ideas greatly appreciated! Am not able to take it outside to work on it😢😢

I would sand it down and then in the future use a good wood conditioner if you are going to use for a cutting board as well.
Yes, you are going to have to sand the scratches out.
