Take them off, with the screws in the backs.
What you clean them with will depend on their materials.
Start out mild- soap & water & a t-shirt material rag. “Elbow grease” is important.
Alcohol may adversely affect the finish.

If brass slather in ketchup, let it set then wash off. Works great.
Remove and boil in a vinegar/water solution (50/50). You can slow clean in a crock pot but you will want to throw away when done.
