Start with Murphy’s Oil Soap, then use a TSP solution.
TSP will get the grease off. Rinse well. I like Fusion mineral paint for cupboards.
A good scrubbing with TSP and a fresh water rinse should be enough to get hem prepped for paint. I've not painted my kitchen cabinets but I would avoid any that use Chalk Paint, that might be a good short term solution but a kitchen enamel will hold up the best over time.
I painted my kitchen cabinets and I love how they turned out! I used Krud Kutter to clean them before I painted. I used milk paint from General Finishes -- their paint is made to adhere with minimal sanding. I also used their primer, too, to keep the wood from showing through.
