I've found that different species can tolerate different amounts of light, but most of my plants tend to suffer in extended periods of direct sunlight. ... If your plants are not getting enough light they may become leggy and stretch toward the light.

Mine do best in direct sunlight when I rotate them often so they don't burn. If they look like they are burning, move them further away to less direct light.
