How can I update my kitchen cabinets on a budget?

I have frosted mirror glass in my cabinet doors and I want to do away with the frost design but keep the mirror, any ideas for a cheap makeover

If you still want the mirror , but on the right size and glue it in . You can try in a small area and see if a scraper can take off the frosting , it might work if it was sprayed on , but most likely , it was etched and that won't come off . Good luck !

Hi Patricia, Just a question first......do you have clips in the inside of those cabinets that are holding that glass in? If so, it will be really easy to replace! I would take that mirrored frosted glass out completely. If it is easy to scrape off, go for it but that is a lot of work that might just be a headache and mirror is pretty cheap to buy in sheets. You also don't know if that mirrored glass is actually etched or sandblasted which in that case you won't be able to just get it off. I would go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy sheets of mirror and cut it to size. Cutting glass is pretty easy if you have the right materials and you get a good tutorial. I don't have a tutorial of my own yet but if you look it up on youtube you will find one. Here are the materials you need to cut glass and/or mirror. People get freaked out about cutting glass but the problem is that you need the right tools. You might need a little oil when you use the cutting wheel. One of my stained glass supplies is a glass cutter with a handle that has oil that drips out. Also, you need running pliers to get it to snap well. Trying to tap the glass and snap in half will just cause it to break in areas you don't want and won't be a clean cut at all. You need the running pliers along with the glass cutter to get the clean cut. Here is a good glass cutting kit for you with everything you would need.

If this is too much to DIY, you might be able to get Home Depot or Lowes or a glass supply shop to just cut you a few pieces. If the mirror doesn't have any bevel, it should be pretty cheap. and cheap to cut! Good luck!

This looks like 'stock' cabinetry - so I would bet the etching is part of the glass. If that's the case it will need to come out and be replaced. There should be little clips on the back side of the door that allow removal. Now, for the mirror... you can either buy mirror to replace it with - not my first choice - or you can simply get new glass the exact thickness of your current glass, so it will fit! (If there's a question about safety, go with the more expensive , tempered, glass to ensure it won't break). You can mirror it yourself with any of the mirror sprays. RustOleum sells it in the spray paint section. But mostly, DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST before you touch those doors. Know what the plan is and then get all the supplies and go for it. You'll be glad you did.

If ordering "new" mirror make sure to get the thinnest thickness.

If the frost was an add on to the original mirror it should come off with vinegar and baking soda. I'd mix them a little thick and not watery and smooth a nice layer bover the mirror. If pour a little more vinegar or apple cider vinegar over it to give more strength. Then let it sit on the mirror overnight.

Remove the molding on the back of the doors and replace the glass.
