Terri.....Your hardware store will have items you will need...paper tiger to roll on wall that makes tiny holes, liquid to spray on that will penetrate holes and help to loosen paper, scraper for removing. You can also Google and watch videos. Good luck

Use clothes softener. We had a wall with 3 layers of wall paper. Softener applied full strength worked better than anything else we tried.

Depends on how it was attached to the wall. Older paper usually had wallpaper paste glue and has to be steamed and tediously scraped off. The newer self-glued type sometimes can be peeled off if you start slowly at one corner or edge. If you can’t get it off easily take a scrap or two with you to the store and get advice for what will work best on what you are dealing with.

Vinyl? Old-style actual paper that you could write on with a pencil? The removal method is different for each.

Vinyl, use the paper tiger mentioned above by someone. Then use a big car washing kind of sponge to really wet the area. A very nice gentleman I hired years ago told me the best thing to use was Cascade dishwasher detergent dissolved in warm water, but wear gloves if you do this as it is harsh on your hands. Once you have wet the whole thing, go back and re-wet near where you started. Use a plastic scraper and pull off the outer vinyl coating as best you can. Sometimes you will get lucky and the paper backing will peel off, too, but usually you end up with paper backing stuck to the walls, which then needs to be removed. Wet the whole mess down again. Then wet it in small sections and scrape with the plastic scraper. (I recommend plastic so it won't gouge your walls.) You might have to repeat the wetting and scraping on stubborn areas. Once you have removed the paper, you will need to wash the glue residue off the walls using something like TSP in water and then rinsing well before the walls are ready for whatever you plan to do to them.

Paper wallpaper is actually a bit more of a pain because you won't likely be able to tear off large sections anywhere. Start with DRY paper and tear off anything that is loose. You can gently use a razor knife to cut through sections to get to the "bubbles" that are loose, just try not to cut the walls. Once you have pulled off all the loose parts, you are back to the paper tiger, wetting, and scraping. The process is now the same as for removing the paper backing after pulling off vinyl paper.

If the paper is stuck really well and is the old style paper that you can write on with a pencil, you might consider just painting over it rather than removing it. Yes, there will be very slight visible seams (which you can sand down ahead of time, if they really bother you), but it is far less work.
