How can I add a pull out shelf?

My lower cabinets have these "half" shelves in the top half which means I have to bend down and reach way back in to get anything in or out...ugh! I'm too old for that and I want to maximize storage space. I'd like to add in a pull out shelf/drawer. What would be the best way to do that in this type of cabinet? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

They sell shelf slides at home depot. You'll have to remove your old shelves and build out cabinet wall sides to mount hardware on that will go past your door opening. Then build a shelf with sides on all 4 sides and install. If you are not handy with saws, clamps and wood. I'd call in a handy man. More work than it seems.

If you want to keep the door on your lower cabinet, then trying to mount a drawer inside will not work. The front panel the drawer will impede being able to open it fully.

Pull-out shelves are available for purchase. The wooden ones are ordered custom size to your cabinets, and are delivered assembled. Some stores sell the metal type in limited ready-made sizes, but they can be custom ordered as well.

I had the same style cabinets with the half shelves. I purchased sliding shelves from Menard on line. Directions for measuring were on line. We did not have to alter the cabinets other than to remove the half shelf. Easy to install. I am very pleased with the product.

We don't have Menard's where I live but, after some searching, I was able to find a metal style basket on Amazon that had slides which mount to the sides of the cabinets. It was alllllmost the exact size for the cabinet. I did have to add a couple of washers between the slides and the inner cabinet wall so the basket would slide out perfectly thru the cabinet opening. I didn't remove the half-shelf, just mounted the slides just enough above so the basket would clear the shelf when pushed in. The basket was not expensive, like some, but is very sturdy. I am very happy with my new pull-out!!

I bought some for $20 at Aldi. Sam's has them as well. They are very sturdy metal and I don't think I could have made them for much less than that. Basically, it's a box that pulls in and out on 2 slides. You could make a wooden box but you would still need to purchase the hardware.

You should extend your shelf. You will be amazed at how much better life is with them. I bought 1 and then went back and purchased enough for all my base cabinets. Life is so much better with them, they are a back saver.
