Walmart sells fruit fly traps. The vinegar in a bowl works SOMETIMES but it takes a long time to catch them.

First, are they really fruit flies? There are also drain flies, which are slightly larger than fruit flies but much harder to get rid of. If fruit fly traps don't work they might be drain flies. You can use the hanging fly traps but they won't get rid of them. To determine if you have them, spray the inside of a glass with cooking spray and invert over your drain when you go to bed at night. If you have drain flies they will come out at night and will get stuck in the glass. Then you have a fight on your hands. Pour boiling water down your drains. Not one pan but several at a time. Use commercial drain cleaner too. We had them and they are hard to get rid of. We finally had to take the pipes under the sink apart and clean them, (outside of course) with bleach and brushes. You can keep the drains clean by pouring boiling water down them periodically and also by mixing baking soda and salt (1/2 cup of each) pouring that into the drain and then pouring 1/2 to 1 cup of white vinegar into the drain and letting it sit for a while before running water.

Fill a microwave-safe bowl with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Microwave the bowl so the mixture becomes even more aromatic. Leave the bowl out uncovered as fruit fly bait. The soap will reduce the surface tension, causing any fruit fly that lands on the surface to drown. Now, if what you have might be drain flies...if that is what you have try this: Boil some water on the stove and pour down your drain several times a day for about a week or Mix 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar and then pour the mixture down the drain, leaving it overnight. In the morning, pour boiling hot water down the drain.

If a drain fly infestation lasts longer than 20 days despite different approaches to get rid of them, then it’s time to call a professional exterminator.
