Wear gloves and pay more attention where your hands are.
I use a good pair of work gloves to protect my hands. Also, pruning shears with long handles on them helps too.

I generally use the rubber palm gloves in white knit for gardening from the Dollar Tree, but I do have a leather pair of gloves for blackberries.
