Can you give me color suggestions for making over this fireplace?

Hi Tara. I'm Cindy. I would go with an almond color. A whitewash would work too. Either one would go with the flooring in your room. Any darker hues would compete with the green on the walls. The mantle should match your trim. Good luck with this project. p.s. Your flooring is beautiful.

Besides softening the brick color with whitewash or a plaster technique, if this were my room, I'd choose a deeper and probably greyer shade of the green on your walls and paint a block of it above the fireplace, going right to the ceiling. Then I'd add a big mirror or tall art piece to cover much of that area to take attention away from the fireplace and add interest above it. In my opinion, that would give the room more pizzazz than it currently has.

I would choose to neutralize the fireplace in order to show off your ethnic art! Colour it and the hearth the same as your walls. With either a clear or antique wax on top to seal. I would leave the mantel shelf the colour it is as it tones in with other wood trims. I would add the same trim to the edge of the hearth to define it and also set off your art pieces. I would also hang your art picture above the fireplace, maybe in a double frame so it a lines with the top of the door frame (increasing its size by about 4" all around) ,e g: Adding another mount and then a frame to the outside or by adding a coloured area of wall on the fire breast and trimming that and then place picture in centre to make it more of a statement.......What ever you decide, enjoy!

I recently moved to a house with a red brick fireplace, electric fire and red tiled hearth. I decided to use Farrow and Ball paint that I had left over from decorating the walls upstairs and luckily it worked really well on the brickwork! I also replaced the fire with an old cast iron surround and changed the tiles for slate that I then painted Matt black to darken them. I’m really pleased with the results! Just don’t be afraid to try!

I would go with a bisque/almond color wash. Brick Anew is a good product, but you can look at many different colors on the website and see what you like.
