How can you secure the edges of a carpet remnant?

I'm looking for an area rug (8x10). I don't want a design and shags are expensive. I was thinking of checking out remnants but what do you do with the edge???

You can bind it or have it bound, many remnants from a carpet store will do that.
you use edge binding and sew it on with a curved needle.
