I am a little over halfway finished in giving my craft room a much needed makeover. When I started the first project I had a few ideas for some other projects but I had no idea where all these projects were going to take me. As I got further into this room makeover my projects started to seem more and more Alice in Wonderlandy. So I decided to go all in with the Alice in Wonderland theme. It might be more suited to a younger person than myself but all I can say is that I like it. :-)

I have two small windows in this basement room and for years they had some dusty old plastic shades on them. So as part of my makeover it was definitely time for an upgrade.

To start this project I measured my windows and ripped up an old sheet to make the main part of the window shades. The next step was to paint the sheet on both sides with a coat of primer paint.

After the paint was dry it was time to fold and glue the sides and bottom edge to the finished dimension that I needed. Once the edges were glued I added the top coat of color. Once the paint was dry I folded the fabric in a 3-inch wide fan fold.

To make the hardware pieces I used some small washers, some brass paper fasteners and some pull tabs from pop cans.

This is the front piece of the hardware.

The next step was to mark the curtain and make some small holes and then apply the hardware and the cording to the shade.

And of course I decided to add some quotes from Alice in Wonderland using some mod podge.

The shades are nailed into the window frame and there is a basic pully system to open and close the drapes. This part is much easier to show than to explain and you can find the details in the attached video.
