  • Clean it well, then prime it. Priming helps get it to white faster. Then paint it. The grooves may need to be painted with a brush.

I actually painted knotty pine paneling with exterior house paint. Didn’t have to do a thing. No priming , sanding or anything. Just remember to well ventilate the area until it is dry. It held up like new throughout the 10 years I owned the home.

I've painted paneling, and it isn't difficult if you do a good prep. Clean any dust off first. If you have Krud Kutter, it works well, but I have also used microfiber cloths, magic eraser and soapy water. Once dry, fill in your grooves (or leave if you want them) with spackle. Then, sand the wall to dull the finish and smooth your grooves. Wipe down again with a damp microfiber cloth to remove the dust. Then, I prime/seal with Kilz. After it is dry, time to paint!

Hi I had the ugliest paneling in my three season room . It was white and green , yuck !!! We dusted it then wiped it down . Then painted it a pale gray color . We did not use primer first , but we were using a good quality paint ! It totally transformed the room !
