My husband works in the oil fields and often comes home smelling like fuel too. I use 1/4 cup of Dawn dish soap and let his clothes set on the soak cycle. Sometimes I have to do it twice and wash it twice to get it out. Hope this helps Taryn

Hi Taryn: Liquid dish washing detergent that's made to target grease can help remove gasoline stains. Gently rub the detergent into the stains until they lift. Then, rinse the garment and wash it in the washing machine as usual. You can even add a 1/4 cup of ammonia and a little extra detergent.

DO NOT also run the dryer with wet clothes from another load while the soiled clothes are in the washer, in case the gas fumes linger. You should always hang-dry clothing that came into contact with gasoline.

If gasoline is still present on the garment, it can ignite in your dryer and create a household disaster. If possible, dry the clothes outside. My cousins house caught fire when he washed his gasoline soaked clothes - twice mind you! - put them in the dryer and woosh! About 15 minutes later, his house was on fire!

    Good luck
