How can you tell if an indoor plant is over or underwatered?

When you go to water a plant, put your finger in the soil. If it's damp you don't need to water it yet. If the soil is bone dry, it should have been watered sooner. Some plants need watering weekly, some need to be watered more and some need to be watered less. Look up the plant you're concerned about to find how how often it needs water. There is another factor though. It also depends on the environment. If you live in a dry area, plants will need watering longer. The same is true if the heating system is on and the air in the house is dry. If you're in a humid area you won't need to water as much. This is just my general practice with plants. It might take a while to figure out your plants, so I'd suggest checking every other day until you have a "feel" for how often your plants need water. Wishing you the best.

I've always had luck with waiting until the soil has just become dry to the touch and then watering the plant, allowing the water to drip out of the drainage holes. Then repeat the process. Keep checking so the soil doesn't stay dried out.
