You could use a painting technique or buy wallpaper that looks like barnwood.

Hi ! I wanted to get rid of my fake wood bypass doors on my entryway closet and change them to hardwood doors . Unfortunately I don't have the room for the hardware needed for the rollers . ( I did find bypass style hardware , just recently , so maybe in the future ! ) I bought some textured hardwood wallpaper used it to cover the doors and added rustic handles . It fakes everyone out !!! So you could go the wallpaper way or you can get plywood or line planks and make your own . To distress your wood use hammers and chains and hang it up . You can put in scratches with a screwdriver and worm holes by hammering a few nails randomly through a piece of wood or a wooden spoon and use it to put small surface holes . You can also attach a wide brush attachment for a drill and scuff some areas .

Then by a product made by Verathane called a wood age accelerator ! It comes in a brown or gray tone ,you brush it on untreated wood and wait about 30 minutes and makes your wood look like old wood !!! Super easy !!! Water soluble for easy clean up and no harsh smells !!! Good luck & post your project !!!!
