We bought wallpaper with a raised textured design that resembles plaster or if painted, tin. Everyone who has ever come in to our house comments on them.
The photos don't really do them justice as the photo is taken straight on. When viewed from the room you're looking out at them and the play of shadow and light in the highs and lows is much more evident. A roll at Home Depot was about $20.00
In the bedroom we painted the ceiling, and then papered a section, framing it out for more interest.
