I HAVE AN OLD KITCHEN WITH HORSEHAIR PLASTER, WAINSCOATING & LIMITED $$$; MY CABINETS ARE LAMINATED & DARK IN COLOR & I HAVE DONE WHITE WALLS & CEILING ALING WITH MY COUNTRY BLUE CHECKED BORDER AROUND DOORS & WINDOWS WHICH I ❤❤ MUCH BUT THAT DARKNESS JUST KILLS MY WANTED LOOK OF BEING CLEANER!! IS THERE SOME KIND OF PAINT TREATMENT OR SOMETHING I CAN DO TO LIGHTEN THEM BECAUSE TEARING THEM OUT IS NOT FEASIBLE AT ALL! SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I've seen where laminate is painted. Also, you could wallpaper or cover with contact paper.

Stacey...You can clean the cabinets well, then use a primer such as Kiltz and then paint...It will take time if lots of cabinets but I would remove each door and mark so you will know exactly where to replace..also after you finish you may want to replace your hardware so take them to your local hardware store so you can match the screw holes. Wishing you lots of luck but you got this!

I agree with tinyshoes. If you love you checkered border why change that? why not lighten the cabinets color? I think with your enthusiasm and interest will lead you to reading decorating magazines and studying online and you will develop a great look!

We used chalk paint on our cabinet doors. We left the cabinet boxes their original color. Chalk paint is easy to use. No order, very forgiving, and looks great. Have fun and good luck.

Here's how my Mom and I painted out her entire dark kitchen in white paint over a few days. It made and INCREDIBLE difference in her home! https://www.hometalk.com/diy/kitchen-dining/kitchen-dining-furniture/my-mom-s-kitchen-makeover-15402859
