Here's a picture of charcoal on the bottom and white on top! I did consider this color scheme myself but ended up going all charcoal. I didn't like the idea of a bright white so you might consider finding a white color that isn't white white bright!
Our upper cabinets are a sand color; the lower ones are very dark brown (espresso) with dark granite top. Turned out just like we wanted it. The contrast opens up the kitchen without making it the center of attention in our open floor plan.
