How do I put a runner on carpeted steps?

    I need to install a  runner over the white carpeted steps to keep it clean. What's the best kind

    You should be able to use a staple gun and put it over the carpet - you may just need longer staples to reach through to the wood.

    Be careful what runner thickness you use, as you will reduce the depth of the stair tread, which can result in falls. Inadequately securing the runner can result in slippage and falls for people using the stairs (equals lawsuits...).

    It's usually easier to dictate a " no shoes, and no dirty bare feet in the house" policy.

    Placing heavy duty door mats inside and outside all entryways, with a boot mat or similar helps people get the message, as well.
