I want to use unwanted milkcrates to create a storage space in garage.
My budget is very limited, using things that are available. Just trying to organize my garage. Thanks
We have used a peg board to hang the tools and draw around each common hand tool with a permanent marker so everyone knows where it goes when they are done. Then an old dresser with lots of drawers in it holds many more tools. My husband likes a locking tall storage cabinet to put his more expensive electrical tools up such as his SawsAll, Stihl chain saw, etc. He put large hooks up on the wall for the bikes to hang in the winter when we do not use them and boards in the rafters so we can place a few tubs in the "attic" section for Christmas decorations etc. We have a place to stand the long handled tools such as rakes, larger brooms for the driveway, post hold digger etc. He has done this two ways: one with just an over sized barrel for some, and one with squares to separate each long handled tool. Hope this helps you.
Peg board and plastic shelving units with plastic bins.
I started doing my HUGE messy garage.. first I made a pile outside to be burning all old papers, basket, what ever will burn.. then got a lot of trash bags.. threw a lot of things useless just laying around in there.. i boxed all things donation and scheduled with the GreenDrop a pickup.. then got PVC shelves from Walmart and Lowes and i had rubbermaid clear containers filled with all materials used for crafting or painting and small repairs so you can see them trough.
get those heavy duty hooks for big tools or shovels, rakes and brooms.. they are easy to install (screw) get bike hooks too sold by pair for less than $4...
vacuum the floor and wash it.. you can add a nice poly rug ($25) in one side (your work area) other side for the car. I could fit my riding mower, the trailer and the attachments for vacuum leaves.. and all my 6 bikes... its not perfect but i can mive around
its better than the day before.. i will do some more this weekend with adding a wallshelf .. and put all my boxes. Good luck
Shelves with bins and some type of hanging tool organizer. I prefer the strip on the wall but my husband likes the stand for rakes, shovels, brooms, and such.
