I usually refinish old furniture, giving them new life and a cool design but when I needed a new tallboy dresser of a certain size for my closet I found it at IKEA. I went with a simple solid wood dresser but wanted to jazz up a little.

Pine ikea dresser

First I assembled the dresser which is a project itself but when you have a bottle of wine, some lousy blue prints and an allen ranch you can do anything!!!

I stained the wood a dark walnut color with minwax penetrating stain following instructions on the can. Once that was dry I taped out the design I wanted and painted it navy blue and gold.

Beautiful wood grain

Once the paint on the design dried I sealed it with water based polyurethane

I added awesome brass pulls that took the dresser to the next level. I will tell you the truth these knobs were about $15 each...so just the knobs cost about $70. You might be able to find cheaper knobs but I was going for a more expensive look. To find my other furniture designs follow me on Instagram @andreapalmai
