Bring a heat source with you to the roof, a claw hammer, ring shanked roofing nails and roofing adhesive (caulk gun). Also a flat pry bar & a utility knife.
gently pry up the warmed shingles above it and remove the old shingle residue- no crumbs left.
Gently push the new shingle into place & see what else you need to remove, trim or pry up. Probably need to trim the top of the nailing tab.
Once it fits put adhesive up inside the tuck area and push it in. Add more adhesive if you think it’s not going to squish out. Top & bottom.
Gently push down & nail down the shingle & any other adjacent shingles that were affected. Since the nails will show, take some time to space them neatly.
This is an opportunity to fix any other roofing problems, like flashing gaps, before winter.
