I would like to start making home made laundry soap and fabric softener. However, I do not want to use products like conditioner. I also would like to find a way to achieve a good smelling soap and conditioner that your clothes will smell like. All ideas would be helpful. I tried just half and half vinegar/water with some essential oil put in for fabric softener and it didnt do anything for scent but did make everything soft and no static electricity

Hi Cindy, I found this wonderful article that shares a few different ways of making fabric softeners https://brendid.com/natural-homemade-fabric-softener/ WRT to the scent, perhaps the essential oils you used weren't strong enough?

  • Hi Cindy - I love this laundry detergent that we use. It's an all-natural DIY and made with safe ingredients. You can use it on an HE machine too. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly

I purchased wool balls for the dryer. I use essential oils to scent the balls any 'flavor' I want. I change it up every week or two and don't seem to get dual scents. I make my own detergent from washing soda, 20 muleteam borax and fels soap. You can find the exact recipe online. Be certain to have a lot of empty bottles, it makes enough to last a year, for me anyway. Vinegar in the rinse cycle will soften your clothes and keep your frontload washer from building up slimy, smelly scum.

  • Skip all the chemicals! They ruin your fabrics. I use plain old white vinegar in the rinse cup and felted wool dryer balls. I don't scent anything as I have a bird and essential oils can be extremely toxic to animals.
