We use to place them in the oven or in a place where the sun is the warmest
One winter I brought into the basement some walnuts with the green husks on. I put them on the floor around the furnace and left them for a week or so, until the husks were dry and easier (easier lol) to get off. Then I left the walnuts dry for another week or so. Spent an afternoon cracking the walnuts and putting them in a jar. I found out it is a lot of work for so little amount of walnuts and is sort of messy! But if you have your own walnuts, it is fun to try. I think I used my walnuts in chocolate fudge at Christmas time.
You could shell them and leave them in a sunny spot for 2 weeks.
