How can I make over a lampshade?

I need some ideas on updating a lampshade. Current one in good shape fabric-wise, but very dated. I will try painting first, but what materials can be used if I remove the fabric and get it down to frame?

I've revamped old mid-century lamps with fabric, parchment paper, rice paper, and fiberglass paper. You can also line them with foil papers to reflect more light and a pop of glamour. The papers I get at an art store, and the fiberglass paper I got at Tap Plastic.

A lamp shade can be bleached to lighten the color; just make sure that you don't use too strong a solution & rinse the shade well with water once you have achieved the desired "lightness."

You can also change the color by using a fabric dye ( follow the package directions).
