Can you help me troubleshoot my Maytag self cleaning oven?

My oven requires a cup of water to be poured into the bottom pan before activating the self cleaning function. I expect the water and heat to steam the food off so it can be wiped away from interior surfaces. It really does not work well. Am I missing something?

  • I would check with the manufacturer if it's not working well.

Read the reviews on your range. See what others say.

I have a GE Adora oven that gives me two options for cleaning the oven: Steam clean and Self Clean. I have found that the steam clean only works half way decent for a slightly dirty oven. I prefer to use the Self Clean cycle because it cleans better. Have to do it on a day where I can keep the windows open however because it gets smelly as the food spatters burn off. There is some ash to wipe out but it does get a lot cleaner this way.

I too have a steam clean oven. You have to clean it IMMEDIATELY after the splatters/spills occur. Never heat the oven again without using the steam clean cycle first. I agree with you, this process is not up to the quality I expected from this manufacturer.
