Hi Robin with my old hardwoods I use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water with a splash of any essential oil I feel like my house smelling like at the time. A good mop is pretty important. I spent $50 on a mop I got off of amazon with a swivel head, it helped a lot!

You could use Murphy' oil soap and water if bare. If the floors have a finish, a bit of vinegar in tepid water will help restore shine as you clean.
