I would like to do something over my patio door without blocking out any light. Any suggestions, picture attached. The area is very small & dark Thanks in advance.
Hi there, I'm kind of obsessed with the new window films that can be purchased on Amazon now. They make one kind that looks almost like a mirror from the outside but from the inside doesn't block any light at all so that might work if you're looking for privacy etc.
I would paint that back wall in a pop of color to bring life into the room. Add indoor plants and either some open shelves over the fireplace or build up the feature to the ceiling. You could also hang a piece of stained glass in front of the transom window above the slider.
I would paint the wall for eye focus, add some life for atmosphere like plants or lighting, and add some color in a decor above the fireplace too like floating shelves or something. If you wanted to "frame" the window add some sheers just on the ends to accent the openness and add plants outside the window to draw the eye out and tie the outside with the inside like an extension on the room.
Depends on what you want to achieve. Mainly privacy ? Go with the window cling, many decorative styles available fairly cheap. If you mainly want to soften the look perhaps some sheer curtains to the sides. And if you remove the shutters more light would come in. Can't really tell what color the walls are but perhaps a lighter color to brighten things up?
If you can remove the shutter you can do a scarf valance using the existing rod that's close to the ceiling. If you keep the fabric off the glass you wont block the light.
Cheapest and easiest way is pick your favourite netting or lace, cut out to shape of window. Smear cornstarch mixed with water onto window, place lace on top and cover whole or partial glass. The cornstarch acts like glue, so pick your favourite pattern. Good news is with warm water can remove and renew with another favourite pattern. Have done my clear bathroom windows and bifold door, everytime I look at them I sigh, they look so nice. Lets light in but gives privacy.

Cornstarch dries clear.
