How can we keep squirrels from scraping our roof?

Squirrels are getting on our roof and scraping it near the vents to make a hole. How do we deter them?

    No trees near house. They are climbing up the sides of the house.

    Spray it with cayenne pepper and vinegar and then tack up chicken wire or other steel mesh- a lot of it.

    Your vents most likely contain a metal that sqirrels find tasty. You'll find some posts on You Tube, concerning this issue.


    The digging may be to gain entry to your attic for winter nesting and bearing of young, where they will cause considerable damage from feces and gnawing on timbers to keep their teeth worn down.


    If you use wire mesh, make sure it's heavy duty hardware cloth metal mesh, securely anchored into a sturdy area.
