Yes paint has gotten expensive. Maybe that is a specialty type of paint. Oil based is the most durable but it yellows. For the amount of labor it takes to paint cabinets is do my research in your area to see what's the best for you and only buy the top of the line for best results. Go to a stand alone paint store like Benjamin Moore and talk to their experts before you get your paint. Remember you paint job is only as good as the prep.

Really what you need is a latex enamel gloss. The gloss finish has a much higher percentage of hardeners than either semi-gloss or satin. The other extremely important component to a durable finish is primer. Paint + primer is NOT equivalent to a base primer such as Kilz. They don't do the same thing. Kilz creates a durable bond whereas the "primer" blended into paint just means there's more pigment for coverage.

There's a new paint on the market. It's called Beyond Paint. It eliminates the need of sanding and sealing. It's really expensive but some people are buying it. The display was half empty at Home Depot.

Hi there, here is the step by step of how my mom and I painted out her entire kitchen to make bright white cabinets with new hardware. It is not a hard job but it is certainly time consuming! https://www.hometalk.com/posts/kitchen-dining/kitchen-dining-furniture/my-mom-s-kitchen-makeover-15402859
