I cover the top of the table with white paper and use pva glue to fix. This gives me a clean base to see a design more clearly and the tiles then can be stuck straight on to the paper which also helps with adhesion grip.
How to Transform an Old Coffee Table With Mosaic
I love finding old vintage coffee tables in auctions and could instantly see the potential in this little piece.
The choice of colours and design is the tricky but fun part. I begin with a border of small vitreous glass tiles in assorted earthy tones glue onto paper with pva.
And then a border on the top surface with small evenly spaced tiles.
Then I use a mixture of bigger glass vitreous tiles in shades of orange reds browns white and grey. Alternating to bring balance and tone.
As I continue to build the design I keep the rectangle shape and even spacing between tiles.
When finished and dry is time to add grout I used ready mixed black grout.
i spread on the cement grout with a old credit card and use back and forth action to get it into all the crevices.
Working it all in until is covered and wiped off excess and leave to dry.
The next day after setting the tiles area can be cleaned further and tidied up.
Then the big reveal and I’m so thrilled with how beautiful it turned out!
