You can purchase clamps on a board to hang in the garage to store long handled tools, you could use one of these for your weed eater, or put a nail in a 2 x 4 and hang it by the handle, that is what we do.

We used pallets that we stood on end and screwed to the wall of our garage. Our weed eater slid right in along with all of our yard rakes and tools.
