I'm not entirely sure how to do this, but I think if you cut an "x" and then bend the cut parts back , it might work. You'll need to trim the excess, but it might work.
This could be done on a radial arm saw with a scrap bed (you’re going to ruin the bed with this technique).
You’ll need a 40 Tooth Steel-cutting saw blade ($45 typically) and you’ll lower running the entire saw head in to the clamped-in-place steel.
This is like a drill press, only with a saw.
I know framing carpenters who could do this freehand, but it would look like it too.
I'm no expert but could you maybe use an awl to poke holes that can be curled on the back side to avoid the sharp edging?
Hi Sue, you can use a piece of sandpaper to smooth those edges and remove burrs, if you have a dremel type tool you can put a sandpaper wheel on that or a drill and remove sharp edges as well, hope this helps you out.
