Mold is dangerous. You can spray a mold remover from the Dollar store on it but you need to find the source of the dampness that is letting the mold grow in the first place. If it is water seeping thru the block you may need a French drain or sump pump. If it is occasional then a water block like UGL or Sunny Dry paint may suffice. Wear a respirator NOT a paper mask in dealing with black mold.

After it’s removed buy a dehumidifier. There’s one big consideration though. Most people don’t buy the right size, or buy enough units for the space. Dehumidifiers are rated by how many square feet they treat. For example, let’s say someone has 400 sq. ft. to treat. They buy one unit that’s rated for 100 sq. ft. and are disappointed because it’s not treating the area.

  • How much mold? Just on the surface? Or in the walls? First thing is to determine why it is getting moldy. Typically lack of proper ventilation. You may need a dehumidifier. If in the walls, you need to call in the pros as removal is regulated by the EPA and only licensed professions can perform this job. See if this helps.

First, fix the environment which allows mold to grow. Then, remove the existing mold. I recommend calling a pro to remove it

  • You need to find out why you’re getting mold in the first place then you can fix it.
