It depends on the size of the dog. You can get a plastic tub and insulate it with styrofoam or blankets and cut a hole for them to go in and out. Mostly, they need to be out of the weather and out of the wind. You can also get the blanket covers that also reflect the body heat back on the dog to help them stay warm. Be sure it is anchored down so the wind does not blow it away by setting cinder blocks or something on the top of it.
