You can lay down humane traps baited with nuts, sunflower seeds, and cherry pits. You can also put some nuts or seeds in a bowl with some anti freeze. Anti freeze is both sweet and highly toxic, making it irresistible to most animals. That being said, you'll be better off with the humane traps if you have pets: you can always pull your dog/baby out of a humane trap, but you can't resurrect them when they inevitably drink the antifreeze.

My backyard has been blessed with an outstanding mouser named Jasmine. For those not so lucky, some things we have had success with is using a grub killer, the big metal mole traps that are inserted into their active mounds, and talking with neighbors to make sure they are also working at it. Sadly, we have found that the pests come back as they rotate through neighboring yards who don't have any deterrents in place.

    Good luck!

Don't use poisons or traps. Both are slow and painful deaths.
