I painted my neighbor's wood paneling for her..... I used Kitchen & Bath semi-gloss paint, and added 1/2 c of baking soda to make it look like chalk paint. I had to use a brush to get into the grooves first, but it came out great.... 2 coats.
Take a good photo to the paint dept. of your home improvement store and ask for their advice on paints and application tools.
Hello! Painting paneling is easy! Give that wall a good cleaning and two coats of AllPrime by Zinsser. (It’s interior/exterior primer) That is by far my favorite primer, it even makes tile paintable!! then pick your favorite paint brand and color!
happy painting!
Clean them up with TSP substitute powder mixed with water then prime the panels well. You can paint however you’d like over the primer.
We bought a raised ranch built in 1972. It had the original 70s paneling. No sheet rock behind it. I used Bahr paint with primer. I have painted mine twice. The first time lasted 5 years and was still in great shape. One coat covered completely. Painted again and so far it has been close to 10 years. I love the color and the paint has held up beautifully. I used satin as it makes it easy to clean. I keep left over paint in a climate controlled area and if you need to do touch ups, which most people do at some point, you still have the original paint. Mine is still good after all these years. We made a pass through between the dining and living room for sitting and snacking while watching TV. Unfortunately you can't see the TV... bad planning, haha, but it did open the living up and created extra seating for Holidays and parties. I used the original paint in the area around the pass through. Bahr is a great paint.
I might post our failed pass through which actually ended up not being a failure.
