What can I do to change dark paneling in a mobile home.

    Hi Cynthia, you can easily paint the paneling. Take a look and see what we did in a previous home. The whole place was so much lighter and brighter after. And it's cheap to do.

    Painting it would make a huge difference. Just be sure to use a good primer first, you'll probably need at least two coats of primer.

    Prime then paint.

    Go buy KILZ Primer.

    Prime walls twice, then paint.

    I removed all those ugly connecting trim strips and filled in the gaps with dap paintable caulk, smoothed it with my fingers, then I primed and painted. My walls look like tongue and groove now. Very updated!! Good luck.

    You can buy a wallpaper that is designed to cover the grooves. It will give a smooth wall even when applied over cinder block walls. The paper can have a a nice texture to it and then when painted it will look like a nice wall and not just painted paneling. BE SURE TO APPLY SIZING TO THE WALL BEFORE ADDING WALLPAPER. That way it can be removed years later - if desired.
