Where should I hang a wall mural?

I would love a full wall mural, the ones you buy and stick on. but, the wall I want it on is my fire place wall. is it best to use just the part that sticks out or, will it look ok to do the full wall from end to end including the where it goes back 5.1/2 '' on each side. the mural is something like the picture. thank you, christine
You can go either way, purely a matter of personal choice. If it were me, I would seriously entertain the end to end as with the recessed portions it will give it depth and look cool, or at least I think so. I am looking at these too as I have also wanted one for the longest time.
As long as the mural isn’t within 18” around the firebox opening, you’ll be within Fire Code regulations. As in it won’t get charred.
For me, I would see if I could find a mural that I could "play with" to create the scene ABOVE the fireplace area. Something like you'd see in an old bungalow with a fireplace and bookshelves on either side with windows above.

Go with the full wall end to end. You want that 3D look with the fireplace. Otherwise it would look flat.
But as mentioned above you need clearance around the fireplace it self for safety. That would look very cool to have it include the area with the fireplace.
