Is there a way to inexpensively cover an old tile countertop with a fake looking granite?

I think you have 2 options.

Strip the tile, sand to ensure smoothness, and use a kit to resurface it.
Layer on top with some type of smoothing agent, and then use a granite kit to change the look.

You can use the kits made for that sold at home depot.  Step by step instructions are in the kit.  You'll still see grout lines.

Thank you for the info, but the countertops are tile, not laminate, they are tile.  I dont think it would work.

Yes! Epoxy! You have to first fill in the seams of the time with a joint compound and then you can lay epoxy over that. Stonecoat countertops has some great videos on this!

do concrete top and there is a mix you can add to it that makes it look like granite. I think I saw on pintrist.
