How do I declutter a small closet?

Hi ! First things first , go through all your stuff and purge !!! Get rid of all the stuff that doesn't fit , you don't wear , or out of style ...donated it ! Then empty the closet . Depending on how big your small closet is , if you have enough room to put wire shelves on one side , they are a big help !!! And hold a ton of stuff !!!!!

Always add a shelf of two over the top shelf in the closet , it is wasted space . You can buy a hanging bar the hangs on the bar in the closet , I have an expandable one . This gives you double hanging area on part of your bad to hang shorter items like shirts . Specialized hangers help too , they have lots of minds that can hold multiple items from a single hanger . Use baskets or tubs to keep winter / summer gear or out of season clothes . If you closet door opens , instead of slides you can hand hooks on it to keep belts , scarfs , caps or other stuff . Pamela has great ideas. Shoe organizers are good too. You can use a shelf or bins for shoes out of season if that helps to get them out of the way.

Marie Kondo would say what Pamela said, but she would have you empty the closet first. Our house dates from 1905, so closets are small. The larger one in my room had bars from front to back on either side and one long shelf. We added another lower bar in them middle and added a hanging bar for blouses/jackets. My husband made a shelf unit for the long shelf that doubled the space in the middle. There is still a little space on the side walls to hang purses if I chose.
